Context
"Frankfurt feiert Demokratie" is a civic initiative celebrating democratic participation and dialogue in Frankfurt. The platform brings together diverse events—from community discussions to cultural events—all designed to engage citizens in meaningful democratic exchange. The goal: make democracy tangible, accessible, and participatory for everyone in the city.
The Problem
The original website was a traditional information hub: events were buried, mobile usability was cumbersome, and the registration process required unnecessary steps. Users struggled to find out which events were happening where—there was no visual categorization and map integration was completely missing. Result: decent traffic, poor conversions.
The Solution
I restructured the entire information architecture from scratch, tackling three core issues:
1. Event Discovery Reimagined
Instead of hidden lists, an intuitive, map-based experience. The interactive map became the centerpiece—users immediately see where events are happening, can filter by category, and book directly from the map. Visual categorization through color and icons makes event types instantly recognizable.
2. Mobile First by Design
Complete redesign following mobile-first principles. Responsive layouts, larger touch targets, simplified navigation. The registration process was cut from multiple pages down to a streamlined flow—less friction, better conversion rates.
3. Visually Clear & Engaging
New design language with consistent color system, improved typography, and clear button hierarchy. Micro-interactions (hover states, transitions, loading animations) bring the interface to life and provide users with meaningful feedback. Everything feels intentional, never cluttered.
